Is
today’s society capable of generating a youth movement on the scale of the rave
scene? And how could the visual culture of this be used to propel this movement?
This is the finalised question that i have come to through research and discussion with peers/tutors. I feel happy with where the essay is heading, it has progressed a lot from my initial ideas. However, I feel that this development has been exceedingly useful in allowing me to end up with an argument that I feel I have a lot to say about. The key theorists I plan to look at in my essay are, Mark Fisher (K-Punk) and Simon Reynolds. As well as these I will also involve a range of other writers and theorists in order to strengthen my arguments. The main change that my project has experienced recently is from looking at album covers to now looking at the rave scene and its importance/relationship with the visual art/design it generated. I think this topic allows me to be more specific which will help to produce a clearer, more structured and cohesive argument.
Currently, I am in the final processes of putting together my research in a way that will allow me to easily situate it into the essay. Alongside this, I am generating practical work through the use of a 3D rendering program which is allowing me to experiment with creating imagery through similar concepts/processes as the visuals from the early 90s.
Over the next few days I plan to start properly formulating my argument and putting the essay together. I plan to maintain my production of practical responses in order to see how they are able to develop over the next few weeks.
