Twistori.com

Twistori is a social experiment created by Amy Hoy & Thomas Fuchs. The site functions by pulling tweets off of Twitter that contain the key words: I Love, I Hate, I Think, I Believe, I Feel & I Wish. This creates an ongoing 'stream of consciousness' from the Twitter community. It creates an emotional landscape of the site which may be capable of reflecting the general feelings of the Twitter community.

I thought that this may be an interesting concept to inspire the practical work that I am creating for this brief. One of the ways that I am interested in utilising this experiment is by using these bursts of emotion to inspire my own work. Choosing one Tweet from each of the emotive categories and then using them as inspiration for drawing from may lead to some interesting results. In doing this I would also be able to explore the themes of distraction and homogeny, both prevalent in my project.

Producing work inspired by the information on Twistori would allow me to explore distraction by visualising it first hand. These tweets pulled almost randomly out of the Twittersphere, come together to form a mass example of what is being done with people's time given up to the Attention Economy. So creating images inspired directly from these thoughts/feelings of people online would accentuate my essay by providing a visual exploration of topic I am researching. Using this practical in a comical way could also be good way of making the topic seem a bit more light hearted and playful.

Action Plan:
  • Choose tweet from each of the key words
  • Maybe choosing the a tweet that seems to appear often (although in different versions). As from watching the site, it seems that some 'genre'(?) of tweet appear more often than others.
  • Begin exploring them visually, how do you make sense of them and what they're saying?
  • Is there some sort of a narrative to this?
