Reflective Report 4

INTERIM FEEDBACK

The feedback from our interim submission has given me a bit of a wake up call. Prior to the hand in I have been really struggling with being able to see a clear and consistent line of argument within my essay topic. Because of this it was very difficult for me to actually begin writing and so instead I handed in a drafted structure of points, quotes and topics I wanted to discuss. Because of my idea not being fully realised I did not manage to get as informative feedback as I would have liked. The main things that I need to do in order to get the ball rolling are:

  • Form a clearer definition of my understanding of the attention economy which will in turn allow me to set the tone and purpose of my investigation.
  • Deeply consider the relevance of any theories that you decide to use. Ensure that you fully understand them.
  • Is flow theory relevant considering the current direction of the project???
  • Social media is an essential aspect of most creatives practice, does this degrade the value of your argument?
  • Need to figure out what you are trying to achieve with your research and how?! Also what is the aim for the practical investigation???

This feedback, although minimal, was useful and so I have had a think about my next steps forward with this project:

  • Need to be more articulate with the exact topic that you are looking into, further research into the attention economy and trying to find a specific link between it and creative practice.
  • Investigation into how one can sustain and evolve a creative practice in the attention economy? How does it change the practice of creativity?
  • Have thought about whether to include theory of flow or not. I think my aim now is to incorporate this theory into my own practical work. Seeing as I'm unable to post to social media (lack of smartphone) this would be a perfect way to investigate my own intrinsic approach to creating work and how it affects the work itself.
  • I think the fact that so many creatives are on social media actually makes the argument more important. As there are side-effects of using these technologies and therefor it will be important to look into the ways in which these side-effects can be minimised/controlled.
  • Begin creating practical work, trying to utilise flow theory in your process. Keep at this and see how the work created is affected by this.
