Study Task 6 (Proposal Plan)

LAUIL501                                                       Proposal planning
What is your question / theme?
Did the rave scene of the 1980s/90s hold a cultural and societal importance that has been lost in the age of technology?
Why is it important or interesting?
·      This question is important to try and answer due to the way that culture is developing (or ceasing to develop in our modern day society).
·      Looking into the relationship between this particular movement (and youth movements in general) and the visual art that comes along with it is necessary to understand the relationship/future of designers/artists involvement with cultural booms.
What are the important points / arguments / theories / concepts? (include key  writers - theorists) How do they relate to the question / theme?
·      Mark Fisher – important theorist who has looked in depth into the evolution of culture alongside the rapid developments in technology.
·      He addresses important theories on stagnation of culture corresponding with the evolution of the internet and spectator society.
·      Other really important theorist is Simon Reynolds, who discusses the scene and it’s impact.

How do you intend on exploring the question / theme? (methodolgy)

·       The main way that I want to explore this theme is through attempting to replicate the means of production for visual memorabilia of the time in a modern way. Considering that at the time, digital technologies where still very much in their infancies, the types of sound/art being produced displayed a very evident incorporation of this futuristic, digital feel in themselves.

Why are you using this process / activity - how does it relate to the question / theme? (Justification)
·       I would like to use digital softwares available today to emulate this same feeling, in order to interpret whether that same idea is still able to be communicated.

Feedback on proposal idea
·       “Seems like you have an overall idea as to what you want to discuss in this essay. May be useful to explore the context of your argument a bit further in order to get your structure as clear as possible.”
·       “Interesting idea, would be interesting to see what you find out through your investigation. Exploring the visuals of the era a bit more in depth could be useful.”
